The Unseen, by Ed Thompson

What will we see if somebody shows us what our eyes can not see? In “The Unseen”, the British photographer Ed Thompson explores the boundaries of perception, showing us the things that are outside our visual spectrum or events that go unnoticed or unreported.

Thompson worked on various subjects over the years: environment, socio-political movements, war… But he saw a problem in the fact that we can only photograph what we can see, until he discovered that Infrared films with the correct filtration can reveal light between 750-1000 nanometers, whereas under normal conditions we see a visible wavelength of light between 400-700 nanometers. It is like photographying the invisible.

About Astrid Jacomme
