Beginning in the early 50s, Andy Warhol self published a series of books and portfolios, which were used to send to existing or prospective clients as samples of his work. They represent indeed a showcase of Warhol’s innate sense of design and composition, as well as his humor.
“Love Is A Pink Cake” is the only one of Warhol’s publications where he neither traces the images or uses his blotted line technique. This book maps each day of December through characterful interpretations of cultural and historical figures associated with love. The show exhibits prints of Warhol’s work, and each one is accompanied with a short text written by Ralph T Ward (“Corkie”).
From sophistication to primitive vulgarity, Warhol will never stop to disconcert us.
