We are speaking with Miguel Leal, an emerging artist from Barcelona. With his work, Miguel show us a satirical discourse that puts in question the society main values, leaded by banality and frivolity. But, let him explain us…
What do you want to express with your art?
What I want to is to satirize with the ridiculous behavior of the human being. I want people to feel reflected on my work and create awareness and self-criticism about the world we are living in today.
What are your main references?
My main influences are in the everyday life, including every artist I have the chance to discover. Focussing on Art, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francis Bacon, Rai Escalé, Abattoir, Irene Bou, or today artist like Frederik Garcia and Michele Guidarini.
Any project currently?
I just participated in the art and experimentation festival Konvent.0 2014 Edition. A collaboration with illustrator Cane. My next show in Barcelona is at Escalera de Incendios Gallery with my photographic project “Mad Face” and a new one at Centro de Arte Mutuo in September.
Are you represented by a gallery?
That’s strictly my business.
You promote your art online?
All the time. Hello?
How can you define the present of the art market?
I’m going to refer to a famous quote: “It’s a big shit covered with glitter painting. It blinds you when you see it from a far distance, but if you get closer, it stinks and makes you throw up!” – Estela Reynolds.
That’s because I think marketing with feelings and things created from the soul it’s a frivolous thing and makes it loose its charming, but at the same time I’m the one who makes business with art…
What do you expect from the future?
Getting married next spring.
