Andy Warhol: Campbell’s Soup Cans and Other Works, 1953–1967

When you think about Andy Warhol, one of the first images coming in your mind is the famous Campbell’s Soup Cans, one of the iconic work of Warhol.

The 1962 series of 32 paintings is the centerpiece of this exhibition focusing on Warhol’s work during the years between 1953 and 1967. Really, the Soup Cans mark a breakthrough in Warhol’s carrer, when he began to apply his technical of serial repetition and reproduction to icones of American commodity culture.

For the first time at MoMA, the 32 Soup Cans are shown in a line (rather than a grid), in the same way they were first exhibited at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles, in 1962.

The show also includes drawings and illustrated books that Warhol made in the 1950s, paintings and prints from the 1960s.

About Astrid Jacomme
